Scratchy sticky dry eyes in the morning? How to relieve the eye strain?

Many people with eyestrain problems i.e. dry eyes have worse symptoms in the morning, itchy, scratchy, sticky or just painful sensation in the eyes. Feeling like it's hard to open you eyes. There can be several reasons to cause this severe dry eyes condition:

1.  Your eyelids are not closing good enough.

This can be problem for people that sometimes sleeps with open eyes. Even if the eyes are not completely open this can cause evaporation of the thin water film on your eyes. If eyelids structure is changed from age or disease this can also prevent eyelids from closing.

2. Another reason for extreme dry eyes in the morning can be caused by Meibomitis

Eyelid glands
- medical condition which is dysfunction of the Meibomian glands a special type of gland responsible for producing oily substance that lubricate the surface of the eye and prevent the evaporation of the tears. In other words - the small glands that grease your eyes are not working properly. 






Unlike the dry eyes in the day which can be threaten with artificial  tears, the dry eyes in the morning are threaten with gel-like eye drops or ointments. Again, unlike the artificial tears which you can buy on your own. Don't buy these medicament without visiting an ophthalmologist. Your eye doctor knows better what to do and what treatment to choose. Some of these medicaments contain ingredients which are not for free sale so actually you can't buy them without prescription.

But still there are few simple things and home remedies that you can do alone:

- Warm compresses before bed. The heat helps the eye glands to open more. Also often when there are meibomian gland dysfunction there is a hardened oil that clog the gland and blocks the normal secretion. The heat soften the hardened oil and helps the gland to open.
The simplest warm compress is with bottle or bag filled with warm water and wrapped with towel. Just keep it on your eyes for a while.
- Use humidifier in the room where you sleep. This will prevents the tears to evaporate too quickly.
- And also drink a lot of water. The more water you have the more easy your eyes will produce tears.
